An absolutely perfect shot where the subject is captured dominating the frame. It almost feels it was shot in the 1950s by Vivian Maier, or at least a shot you would expect her to take. Love the candidness of the subject oblivious to everything except his news paper, and just love the hat which you don't see any more. Great black and white tones, great focus and clarity, with a wonderful reflection in the mirror.

This is one of two photos that despite not being on brief I felt compelled to commend.
First brief states no mor than 4 people in the shot. The photographer knows I am quite pedantic about things like this, and in order to be consistent, despite the other people being quite incidental, I could not place in the top 10.
While so many had human subjects in the photo, in this shot the subject is the photo and is a great street photo shot, which shows a fearless photographer who is not afraid to get close, which you will find in many of his photos.
Despite the movement of the subject and the rain, we have a beautifully captured shot which has a good degree of focus and clarity, with captured rain drops, and beautiful depth of field making the other people in the shot quite incidental.
Wonderful black and white tones in an image that makes you look for your umbrella.

I am looking for candid street photography of people in an urban environment. No parks, forests or countryside shots, urban streets only. Entries in black and white only, no colour or selective colour. The subjects must be the focal point with no more than four people in the scene, so no crowd shots please. Also, as I am looking for a bit of intimacy on the subject, which must be a living human, no architectural street photography where the subject is dwarfed by the surroundings, environment, or architecture. As with all my street contests, please do not enter images of homeless people, street performers, or beggars.
While this photo was not on brief I felt compelled to commend it as it was a perfect fearless candid street photography shot. The beautiful depth of field rendered the other people incidental, but as I am quite pedantic about my briefs I had to disqualify it from formal judging. A beautiful black and white with great tones and wonderful composition.
