8th Place Image. This tells many stories the boat looks abandoned as if something has happened or they have gone for an evening swim it has that sort of mood and atmosphere .

Love the muted colours especially within the sun, the composition is all the the thirds, there is just enough reflected light on the water to give the detail and interest, another very simple and minimalistic image that works for me!

5th Place Image. This is a lovely image I love the idea of all those which look like little egrets flying about the frame it would work with or without them for that boat and the person in it tells its own story. Gorgeous misty pastel looking colours the pink and blues really blends well, and the reflective light on the water. And again there is no sun included but you can still tell that this was taken at either sunrise of sunset, and the final touch is the fading graduations in the distant mountains this gives the image that depth!

7th Place Image. Another simplistic and minimalistic looking image all the negative space has that endless horizons feel, I love the colours and that whispery cloud formations, the horizon is in the thirds making is a pleasing images to view and the reflective light in the water gives detail and interest where it is needed. Again no sun but it is not needed you know that it is at the end of the day, and the main subjects the boat and people are perfectly placed and they tell their own story!

6th Place Image. Another of the images that has that Simplicity and minimalistic theme running through this, also it fits with the two main subjects of the competition, boats on water at sunrise or sunset. Again the composition with the boat and sun are perfectly placed, love the light and the colours with the reds and yellows being split by the paler blues, the horizon is on the thirds showing more sky then water but that's where the main colours are and the final comment is the reflection colours of the sun this mimics the colours in the sky!

4th Place Image Its that fog and misty atmosphere that hits you straight away then you start to look at the subjects and that does not disappoint. love the light and tonal ranges from silhouette through to the highlights, the graduations on the tones are beautiful this also helps the colours and the composition itself is for me spot on the the longboat coming into the frame and that tree on the right gives the balance, you don't need the sun to know that this in early morning just after sunrise, my favourite sort of weather and time of the day!

2nd Place Image.

What a lovely image to view I simply love the misty atmosphere coming off the waters surface and everything works, the line of trees where the sun is rising is for me perfect they also act as a frame for the sun this in turn produces those lovely rays and sunbursts. The composition of the three boats is another perfect highlight of the image I think if there were only one of them it would not of had the same impact. Beautiful light and colours throughout the image and the letterbox format is another well thought out part of the presentation,

9th Place Image.

Out of all the entries this one was the only image that had the tight crop of the boats and masts with the sun setting behind them and that works for me, love the golden hues of colour and light throwing everything into a semi silhouette which the HDR gives you and that works for me because it it were in total silhouette that would have been to much , the reflections and the sky sandwich the body of yachts very well indeed. Great composition and a slightly different one just having focused more om the masts , again its all on the thirds and the graduated tones of the distant hills is a very nice touch!

Enter your colour photos of any type of boat on any water, taken at sunrise or sunset. You can include parts of dry land if you wish and also include people and animals but the main subject must be a boat on water taken at sunrise or sunset. The photos must be in colour only.

10th Place Image Another beautiful image love the muted tones, light and colour these and the stillness really sets the moods in this, love the idea of the dark cameos of the trees which balances out with the silhouetted boat and person and that lighter band of water between them is perfect for the image this separates everything . Lovely graduations of light over the distant hills these add depth to the image . It may of been improved if you cropped half of the water away and some of the sky making it more of a panoramic style format but that's only a personal choice it is still a lovely image never the less!

I love the atmosphere within this the misty moods really does set the scene and that boat add the scale and the interest on the water, the trees either side make a lovely natural frame and those graduations of light and tones leading up to the sky are well blended. I would have liked to have seen the top right hand corner toned down more especially where the sun is this would have held everything in more and make the viewer look continually at the water and boat this could have been achieved by using a graduated filter in either the editing or at the taking of the image, but never the less its the lovely misty atmosphere that is worthy of a commendation!

I loved this image with the initial impact I kept looking at it , the idea of the yacht caught within the setting sun was superb and with that gorgeous looking sky and the colours in it . Then I started to zoom in on it with the sun and yacht taking most of the seawater away and most of the sky either side would have given this much more impact and a real chance of the top honours as I see it this is not really a critique but more of a personal choice
