Thank you for entering the Books contest, and congratulations on gaining first place! I love the way the light is comingt through the window and the casting of the shadows on the wall behind him. Also that the book is bouncing some of the sunlight back onto his face. The composition works really well, and the people outside the window add an extra layer to the image. Very nicely done!

This is such a fun image. The backlight coming through the window creates a real sense of mood and relaxation, while the conversion to black and white adds a timeless quality to it. I love that your daughter has her arms outstretched, presumable to try and keep the book out of the water, but I'm sure it wouldn't have long before she discovered how quickly the arms begin to ache at that angle!

I've done a version of lighting up the face from a book several times myself, so I know it's not an easy thing to get the light balance right with the surrounding area and ambient light. Partially desaturating the the bookshelves works well and could so easily have been overdone, but in this case it allows them to be there as part of the scene without detracting from the woman with her book

Shiver and Shake! That took me right back to childhood - I haven't thought about that for years! Even the holes in the cover made by darts, I would imagine, trigger further memories. Thank you for the trip down memory lane :)

Who could resist a photo of a cat in the window next to a pule of books? A great take on the theme! It would have been quite a different photo had the cat been asleep but the fact it is staring straight down your lens really brings the viewer into the narrative. The cat is looking directly at us, and probably judging us quite harshly!
