Buildings with Impact

May 2025

Great image this, it's got a very "Instagram" edit to it which I'm not always a fan of but it definitely works for this and creates a very moody atmosphere.

Those subtle pops of warmth really bring the photo to life.

I would have like to have seen a little bit more sky than water but it's only a personal thing that and get why you have divided the image with your framing as you have.

The treatment of this image transports the viewer directly to this location, the wonderful blues create a cold feel to the shot which I think adds to the impact of the photograph.

The graphic way you have framed the whole scene with the trees in the foreground cutting directly across the image works well.

I do think the light on the castle is a little hot and would just bring your highlights down a little around that area but a great image nonetheless.

A late entry to my top 10 but the graphic framing a black and white treatment of this really stood out to me.

The leading lines of the staircase work really well to transport the viewers eye towards the main subject of the image and the treatment of the sky line does actually work for me although may just want feathering in a little to appear more natural.

A lovely, almost dystopian image!

You have framed this really well and the train coming into shot makes this shot for me as it just draws my eye across the image, balanced really well with the palm trees on the opposite side.

Colour treatment is great, balancing the beautiful warm orange hues coming up the building against the blue of that sky which looks fantastic.

Seen this a few times now and always a pleasure to view it.

The balance of the read of the buildings and the bright blue from the sky works really well and that plane just makes the shot stand out really well from the others.

It's framed almost perfectly and can tell you have taken time to think about where you have stood, it's just a tiny bit top heavy but I'm really nitpicking there.

This is a gorgeous shot which really conveys the power of the sea and how this building has to stand up to it every day.

I would have like to have seen a little bit more contrast just to make that black and white effect even stronger and feel the sky needs a little bit of something to mirror the sea but it is a great shot.

You have shot this really well the give it a really imposing stature in the image which ticks all the boxes for the brief.

I like the addition of the three people walking through the image to show the scale of the building too which adds to the impact.

Colour treatment is great too and works really well for the area, my only slight issue is with the buildings on the side falling in to the centre, would have like to have seen those looking straight but only a small change.

The only aerial image in my top 10 and I think it's a great one!

Really captures the size and scale of the building and gives us a perspective which we otherwise wouldn't be able to achieve, which is the perfect reason to use a drone.

Colour wise, I think you have treated it well and the subtle pops of red through the image work well to give it enough colour to keep the eye looking around for more details.

This is a great shot and has an almost documentary feel to it.

I think there black and white treatment works really well for the image but would have liked to have seen a bit more contrast just to make that wonderful bit of sunshine stand out a bit more and create and even more graphic line across the image.

The cleaning in progress signs also throw my eyes away from he subject so I would have removed them afterwards.

There is something about the starkness of this image which I absolutely love and has that instant impact on me which ticks the brief, it's like a still taken from a movie!

Colour treatment is fantastic and takes me right there.

It has also been framed really well with the main subject of the image sitting on one of the rule of thirds lines.

Beautiful image of the cross-section of a building here, which creates a lovely graphic image!

I think the tones are great, there's a lovely balance of warm golden hues mixed with a slight bit of blue coming into the darker areas, which always looks great!

There's a few little imperfections on the buildings facade I would have liked to have seen you take the time to just tidy up but apart from that a wonderful image.

This is a wonderful example of the best camera is the one you have on you as I don't think most people would realise this has been shot on an iPhone!

The angle you have chosen works perfectly for the brief and creates a really impactful image.

The colours are great with the great earthen grey tones from the wood which lead into the bright blue of that sky creating a really dramatic shot.

Buildings can have impact in different ways - with a design that wows, colours that stand out from the crowd, or be on a scale that makes you marvel. This doesn’t have to only be the iconic signature buildings that every mayor wants to have gracing their city’s skyline - it can be smaller buildings that still pack an impressive punch for their size.

This is a fantastic shot which very nearly made my top 10.

I love the colour treatment and the way that little piece of cloud just matches the path of the walkway down the lighthouse.

The tones are great and the exposure has been handled really well across the whole image and everything is pin sharp exactly where it should be so well done!

A beautiful building and well captured!

The lady walking through the frame only roughly a third line really draws the eye and makes me look at the image further.

I would have taken some time to retouch out the traffic cones as they're a bit too distracting for me to place the image higher.
