Candid Discord

This image captures the spirit of the contest perfectly, leaving the viewer to speculate on the reason for the discord. Positioning the discordant couple off centre and giving equal prominence to the bored guy on the bike works well as well.

Superb lighting, irrespective of whether this was a happy accident or brought out in processing. Wonderfully ambiguous emotion in the woman's face, great interpretation of the discord theme. Colour of her dress makes for extra drama. Congratulations on a truly magical image.

Excellent interpretation of the contest theme. Some entries just show anger or someone upset, but this image really portrays the breakdown of communication that underlies discord. Never easy to make that call about intrusion on private moments, but let's hope they worked things through! Congratulations.

Beautifully ambiguous and a worthy place in the Top 10. Maybe they don't even know each other but it's easy enough to construct as story that says they do. The positioning of the taxi is a happy accident, and even the litter bin takes on a potential part in the drama. And what's in the carrier bag?

Wonderfully shot image. There is enough in the stallholder's face to show there is discord rather than just grumpy anger! I wonder if they ever settled on a price? There were several entries that featured similar haggling themes, but this was the best photographically. Great colour and focus control.

This works really well. It interprets my theme wonderfully and really captures the fascination of street photography, providing an insight into an intimate moment between strangers. Lovely to try and construct a story. is she offended she didn't get the first bite?

There were other entries with a similar vibe but this image gets it place in my Top 10 because of the sheer quality of the monochrome image. Deep blacks, great lighting on the cups and glasses. The movement in the finger adds an almost cinematic quality. Congratulations.

The best of the many sporting images entered, most of which involved a referee or umpire. I wonder why that is! Great focus, and the psychological moment of greatest frustration captured beautifully. The contrasting background is perfect with its graphic diagonals. Well done!
