This is an image I am sure many will pass by without a second glance, but it really caught my attention. I am unsure whether the composition was a result of careful planning or a happy accident, but the position of the back of the closer animal perfectly frames the one behind. The colours all look natural, with no harsh editng effects, adding to the authenticity of the scene. Great image, well done on your top ten placing.
A truly captivating image of tribesfolk with their cattle. The lighting is fabulous, which has been well controlled with the camera facing into the late evening sunlight. What looks to be smoke from the fires really adds atmosphere to the scene and gives a lovely gentle softness. The three people are clearly visible but blend nicely with the cattle, telling a story of what I imagine to be a close and respectful relationship with the creatures that provide their livelihood. Congratulations on your second place finish.
There were a number of entries of a line of cows facing the camera as if in a standoff with the photographer, but this one was my favourite. The weather looks rather grim, with the dank mist and deep mud beneath the feet of the cows. The mist has diffused the light, which brings a lovely softness to the image, and keeps the colours nicely natural. I love all the little details, such as the varying "hairstyles" of this lineup of cattle, and even though not especially close up, we can even see the eyelashes surrounding the inquisitive eyes. Great work, well done on your top ten placing.
Sometimes, shots such as this that give the appearance of the head "floating" and detached from the body, can look a little odd, but I think here it works. I would not usually go for images with an added digital border as it can disract ftom the subject, but here it seems to add, and gives the impression of a beautiful family portrait hung on the wall! Your capture of this delightful beast is excellent, and the sideways glance of the eye gives a real sense of character. The textures of the hair the shiny nose all add to the strength of the portrait. Congratulations on your third place finish.
