A beautiful shot, and not easy to achieve at -30 (which is pretty typical of winter in the Canadian Prairies). I love the colours. Although it may be cold, there's a feeling of warmth from the rising sun and the reflections in the river. I would have loved to be there, with my parka! A deserving third place finish.
Old grain elevators definitely evoke memories of the Canadian Prairies. In addition to great composition, what sets this image apart from the rest is the amazing colour treatment. The copper toning combined with the vignette effect is superb. It makes me feel like I'm looking at an image from the depression era. A fantastic shot, and a well deserved first place. Congratulations.

With this year being Canada's 150th birthday, I think it's the perfect time for a contest celebrating the amazing diversity of my home country. I'm looking for images that are uniquely Canadian, from quaint fishing villages, to bustling cities, wide open prairies, and the majestic Rocky Mountains. I look forward to your submissions.

There were many submissions of Toronto and its famous sky line. I was drawn to this image because it's a less well known location and the care taken in the composition. The monochrome treatment enhances the look of the architecture, and the star bursts add a nice signature effect. With the Toronto logo in the foreground, there's no doubt that this image is from Canada. A fantastic shot, and a well deserved second place.
There's no mistaking the unique look of a Newfoundland fishing village, with the rugged coast and homes built on top of the rocks. The image itself is a beautiful morning shot making good use of a long shutter speed to calm the waters and enhance the reflections. I love the muted colours with just a hint of sunlight on the buildings. A deserving top 10.
There were many great entries from the Rocky Mountains, and it was hard to pick just one for the top 10. This image was a bit different. The multiple leading lines fading into the distance along with the contrasting colours makes for great composition. The light dusting of snow and low lying clouds, combined with the calm waters of Moraine Lake has resulted in a beautiful winter scene. Well done!
