Chairs

June 2024

I was drawn to this image because of interesting and original point of view. The leading lines and symmetry make this a well composed shot. I love the pop of colour that the yellow of the ceiling has against the red of the seats.

Meet the expert judge

I thought that this image was simple and effective in conveying daily life in London. I like that it has not been over sharpened and and the use of depth of field provides interest and drama for the viewer. A clever interpretation of the brief.

**This contest is open to photographers ranked between 251 and 1000 in this week’s Leaderboard.** We spend a lot of our lives taking the weight off, and reclining or perching on chairs. They can be simple slabs of wood, or elegantly crafted designs, and many a great architect has felt moved to create an iconic chair to form part of their legacy. Whether you’ve photographed a Mies van der Rohe ‘Barcelona’ chair, or a 50 year old chair in pieces in a skip, let’s get exploring the varied world of chairs.
