Great contest!

Excellent choice of subject! Many of the submitted photographs do attest that the photographers have not read the brief (as well as those who have been rating in this contest), this one has - and found an excellent pairing of columns and sculptures. The composition is very well done with perfect symmetry of the columns. The clouds add some dynamics, opposed to the symmetry. The depth of field gives detail to the small sculptures. Black and white suits the image perfectly and underlines the great composition. All in all a great image, congrats to the photographer!

Structural elements such as columns and pillars are often accompanied by ornaments and sculptures, adding beautiful details to mostly historic architecture. Show us this pairing from an interesting angle and lead our focus back to a time when architecture was playfully detailed and pretty.

"The lion slayer" belongs to the same building in Berlin where my example shot for this contest was taken and couldn't fit the brief more perfectly. The composition and shooting angle are great, including slayer, lion and one column of the building in the back. The depth of field adds amazing details to the horselegs, as well as to the bulding in the background. Black and white works perfectly for this image, leaving a good playground for the light on the sculpture. Great shot!

What a great pairing of columns and sculptures, a shot like this is exactly what I had in mind when writing the brief for this contest. Thanks to another photographer who really read it. The Trevi fountain in Rome uses to be a well photographed subject and in this shot we see a very well selected detail of it. The original fountain usually appears to be more white and the color processing of this image adds nice detail to it. Speaking of detail, I also like the over-all sharpness of this image. Considered that the photographer did not chose the typical complete view of the fountain, the choice of this excerpt gets an extra point for originality. Good job!

Another lovely pairing of columns and sculpture that is absolutely on brief. The shooting angle has been chosen with thought and creates an interesting perspective. It's probably the best photo of one lion of Stowe House that you can find on the net. The color composition works very well here and the clouds add some dynamic to the shot. The over-all depth of field has been well executed. Well done!

Here we have a pairing of a column with a sculpture that is rather unexpected - and makes me wonder why this image did not get more attention in the rating process. It was up in my favourites at first sight. The blue-ish toning is great, but I guess that images would have worked with any color toning for me. The shallow depth of field separates the subject well from the background. The light adds depth to the sculpture and underlines the facial features of the seahorse. Great photo, and lets be honest, who doesn't like a seahorse?
