The several layers that make this serene landscape gift it with appealing three-dimensionality and uniqueness. The rising fog and flying birds add delicious dynamism to the scene that would have otherwise appeared rather static, as in most landscapes. The golden sunlight makes the image come alive by highlighting the fog, making it visible, and casting interesting shadows on the hills. This landscape is as ethereal as it is striking, all whilst featuring seamless compositing and great photographic skills.
This calming image matches pleasing composition on the ground level with an interesting pattern in the sky above. I particularly like how the sky leads the viewer's eye to the lighthouse, which is a compositionally important element. The compositing is seamless, and the exposure levels of ground and sky are balanced, creating a pleasing array of blues, pinks and purples that are soothing and calming. A truly successful composite entry!
I love how the smartly positioned toy turns this landscape image into a realistic sci-fi scene. It looks like a still from a movie. The toy is positioned to perfection, creating a game of perspective that makes it appear like a gigantic robot in comparison with the person and dogs farther ahead. The highlights on the robot's silhouette from the sun ahead is the detail that ties the image together, adding a realistic flare and making the robot true part of the scene. The composite highlight & plane in the sky are seamlessly incorporated within the original image and add to the story behind the shot.

**This contest is open to photographers ranked between 1 and 250 in this week’s Leaderboard.** NOTE: All image elements must have been shot by the uploading photographer. Adding a dramatic sky to your landscape image can work wonders, but needs some skill too. It can also be a giveaway when a bright sky is paired with a dull landscape that was obviously shot under very different conditions. But the sky is definitely not the limit for composite landscape imagery, and with some good taste, well shot elements, and appropriately applied understatement, the sum can be very much more than the parts and produce impactful imagery that would be impossible to achieve with one capture.
