Composite Landscapes

June 2022

Sometimes a sky replacement is all that is needed to really make an image. Finding one that matches the rest of the scene and then combining it in a natural way isn't always easy. You've done a great job here to match the tones and create an engaging landscape scene.

You've done a fantastic job to put this image together in a balanced and controlled way. There's an almost playful and happy anthropomorphic look to the helicopter harvester, enjoying it's task in the fields. While I can see the similarities of the image by Uli Staiger that inspired you, I still believe you've demonstrated the skills necessary to create an imaginative composite.

**This contest is open to photographers ranked below 1000 in this week’s Leaderboard.** NOTE: All image elements must have been shot by the uploading photographer. Adding a dramatic sky to your landscape image can work wonders, but needs some skill too. It can also be a giveaway when a bright sky is paired with a dull landscape that was obviously shot under very different conditions. But the sky is definitely not the limit for composite landscape imagery, and with some good taste, well shot elements, and appropriately applied understatement, the sum can be very much more than the parts and produce impactful imagery that would be impossible to achieve with one capture.
