A seemingly simple daytime photo that is transformed into something magnificent by the great eye of the photographer to see something special. A centred horizon is commonly used to showcase reflections, but here it is used to showcase a different kind of reflection, a shadow! The photographer has perfectly positioned themselves to add a jewel of a sun star in the uppermost window of the ruins, drawing the viewer into the looming shadow and putting them in the scene.
A clean and crisp image with soft light adding to the striking features of the mountains. The mirror-like surface of the water gives a perfect reflection of the stunning landscape. The distances between features of the image layer the depth of the photo to distinct levels; a captivating treat for the eyes! The subtle reds of the sunlit mountains contrast nicely with the sky and cool tones of the shaded blues.

**This contest is open to photographers ranked between 251 and 1000 in this week’s Leaderboard.** Strong composition is essential for most photography, and when played well, one of the strongest and most intentional compositions is the dead-centre horizon. It doesn’t always work, depending as it does upon what’s above and below the horizon, and both halves of the image need to be well weighted in relation to each other.
