A beautiful minimalist, painterly image with a very tight, structured composition using lines and angles to great effect. That perfect horizon where sea meets sky a third of the way up the frame is a classic way of depicting landscapes effectively. Also, the way the photographer has the groin come into the frame from the bottom left edge, ending precisely where the red post touches the horizon, again a third way into the frame horizontally this time. And i love the colours! - the washed out grey of the sea suddenly becoming the blue of the sky with great wisps of slate grey mixed in as well; contrasting with the bright red post. A beautiful image. Congratulations!.
What a clever and brilliantly composed photograph!. The lines, the shapes, the colours, the textures arranged throughout the image are stunning; and the then the piece des resistance - the little girl in her spotty dress with bucket, perfectly highlighted against the wonderfully-textured mossy rocks... perfect. This very original picture is made possible because the photographer has flattened the perspective making it the wonderful visual tableau that it is. Along the bottom we have the wispy green grass followed by the vivid, angular beach huts across the middle of the frame, then along the top edge, the complex-textured rocks on which the little girl is exiting the frame. A brilliant and worthy winner!
What an original image, made striking by light and an interesting composition with the spiders web perfectly capturing the warm fading light of sunset as it enters the frame bottom left and weaves it's distinct pattern across the whole picture. Meanwhile, we see an out of focus but inviting background of trees bushes and a blue and orange sky. Nature at it's most beautiful. well done.
wow, what colours! what texture and patterns.. broken up nicely by the dynamic image of the boy framed within the frame - his brightly coloured blue top complimenting the dark blue patterns on the wall. Somehow having him playing on those bars near the edge of the frame , makes the image have a stronger composition. A very artful photograph.

**This contest is open to photographers ranked between 251 and 1000 in this week’s Leaderboard.** Please read the brief carefully This experiment in compositional technique is asking for images where the main focus of the shot has been placed on or near the edges of the frame. Whilst it may seem counter-intuitive, placing the most important subject near the edge can be surprisingly effective in drawing the viewer’s eye to it. It can work best when a large amount of empty (‘negative’) space is present in the scene, and as a bit of a challenge to the conventional compositional rules it can make for an interesting and engaging approach.
