One sure gets the feeling of the old West in this remarkable image. The maker found this cool old guy interesting enough to shoot him in various compelling ways to show what one thinks of when cowboy lore is the subject. Light, colour, composition are spot on. What is this wrinkled, disheveled old codger thinking about? I bet he misses the cowboy life out on the plains. Congratulations for making me really feel the cowboy lore and the American West.
"Portrait of a modern day cowboy" is such a lovely minimalistic image. One can almost smell the prairie grass. I love the grullo horse with his long black mane and tail and his cowboy rider standing by his side, surveying the plains. The photo shows that the spirit of the West is alive and thrives. It puts me in the mood to go checking ads for dude ranches to go to this summer for a week of communing with nature on the back of a nice sensible quarter horse.. Thanks so much for putting me in the mood. Congratulations.
This image is one that I yell, "I wish I'd taken that photograph".. The arrangement of the ladder, the juxiposition of the door, the shadow on this pueblo dwelling is so pleasing to the eye. The photo moves me for it's great colours. composition and architectural photography prowess. Congratulations is in order to the maker for producing this fine art photo of a Pueblo dwelling.
I was excited to see so many wonderful photographs in my "Cowboy Lore and the American West" contest. I agonized over my top 10 and commended images. The Photocrowd folks are just fabulous. Thanks to everyone for entering! My number one pick went to this art photo depicting cowboy lore and the American West in such a remarkable semi-realistic style. It epitomizes my brief. I know it was a difficult image to put together. The impact, the colours, the composition, light and technique are over the top here. Congratulations!

Still life is a unique genre of photography. One thing that makes it so special is that often the subjects aren’t very interesting. They’re just ordinary objects that you normally wouldn’t pay much attention to. That means that to be successful in this contest you need to find ways to make your photo interesting. This maker did that by adding the sunflowers to the hat and boots and flawlessly using light, composition and technique to breathe life into this image. He or she took great care in finding commonplace objects and turning them into an interesting work of art. Congratulations!

What wonderful action in this photo of a herd of horses galloping towards the maker. in this cowboy western town's main street. It meets my brief perfectly and is evocative. Why are these horses running? The image just oozes excitement. Focus is sharp throughout and I love the railing to the right which mimics the flow of the herd. Congratulations!
