Creative Portraits

The danger when a photographer sets out to produce a creative portrait is that, in a bid to achieve something artistic and quirky, the equal goal of portraiture can get somewhat lost. Not so here. This is a portrait, first and foremost, but with a wonderfully creative element. Elegantly done.

This is a truly intriguing image, and plenty of people will be curious about the precise technique that's been used here. This is certainly a very fine example of photographic creativity being put to the most effective use possible, and will no doubt inspire other photographers to experiment with different approaches.

Like the winning image, this is a photo that remembers not to put creativity ahead of portraiture. Shooting through a rain-soaked window may not be a new thing, but the colour palette and the composition (the subject's nearest eye clearly visible) combine for a fantastic portrait.

Portrait photography is hugely popular, which isn't surprising given that we are all surrounded by subjects. But many of the best portraits have a creative, abstract aspect to them, so we want to see movement, some artistic blur, and maybe even some double exposures.
