Macro is one of my favourite photography subjects, and while there were so many lovely images in this contest I found myself constantly coming back to this one. The caterpillar fills the frame, it's pin sharp and the image is clutter free. As the viewer, you know what you're looking at straight away and the lighting is spot on. I couldn't fault it and it ticked all my boxes. Well done and congratulations on having the winning image.
Ooh this one gives me the shivers! I can deal with most spiders if I'm behind the camera, but I think this one would scare me. It's one of those spiders that comes galloping in your house at the change of season and usually has me and my dog launching onto the sofa. A couple of points when photographing macro to make it more pleasing to the eye, would be to capture it on a better background, I can understand you needed to try and keep it in one place but maybe outside and in a more pleasing environment. The spider is nicely in focus but the lid it's on is too distracting. You've slightly cut off its two front legs which is a shame. These are just small points to help improve your macro shot here.

Nature being nature. This poor little ladybird is caught up and just waiting to be devoured. I do feel very sorry for this little bug but it is nature doing its thing. The photographer has caught this spider in action, doing what it has too, to survive. Both bugs are totally in focus and in the frame. Beautifully captured and there is so much to look at. Well done on second place.

What a fabulous extreme macro shot this is. There is so much detail to be had here, it's just wonderful. You can see pattern and detail under the translucent skin on its head, and the eyes are pin sharp and it creates an almost 3D image feel. Well done on getting so much detail in this great macro shot.

Insect photography requires patience and an eye for detail. There are several tools of the trade (such as macro lenses, reflectors and tripods) that can make your life a whole lot easier when capturing these little critters, but the most important thing is perseverance and a sense of curiosity at the world around you. We look forward to seeing what you come up with.
What a fabulous type of Weevil! I adore these little guys and I've always made a point of photographing them, however I've never seen one like this which to me looks like it's been dusted in mustard powder! This is a wonderful image which is unusual and it's refreshing to see a different bug entered that I have not seen before. All beautifully in focus and sharp. Great entry.
