This picture really shows and talks about the idea and sense of experience we feel attending a live concert in today's technological world. Many complain that the experience of a show is now tainted by viewing the spectacle though a screen and recording device. That is a question for another time but this wonderful image addresses that debate perfectly. Technically this image is beyond reproach showing the concert, sharp through the screen and with the highlights and shadow details very well controlled across the entire frame. The tight crop really brings us to the action in this well composed image that like all great documentary photographs - asks questions from a position without giving the answers. Very well done. A creative take on the subject.

This intriguing capture is very well seen and composed. Showing the visible signs of lock down, with the individual wearing a facial mask which was the visual symbol of the Covid virus back in 2020/21. The person is beautifully captured walking between giant posters of cinematic icons with Marilyn Monroe blowing a kiss towards us the viewers, suggesting better times ahead. The tight crop works well as does the subtle rule of thirds within the composition. A stunning capture of a moment in time that none of us will forget. Very well done.

With a soft tonal range which really sets the mood in this image it is hard not to be carried away in the beauty and softness of this quiet image that asks many questions but gives very little away.. The people on the cart with two bundles moving away from the camera is beautifully positioned within the frame, exposing the road ahead. The mist not only makes their journey difficult to navigate but acts as a barrier for us the audience and is suggestive, that the journey is long and hard. Haunting and beautiful. A powerful image that asks many questions. Stunning. This would look wonderful framed on a wall. Well done.

**This contest is open to photographers ranked 1001+ in this week’s Leaderboard.** To many, documentary photography has an almost spiritual association with monochrome. The history of black and white documentary photography is long and rich, and the focus that monochrome gives to the story being told in the images is powerful and evocative. If nothing else, take some of your favourite colour documentary images from your archive, and see what happens to them when you strip out the colour, and play with the contrast. All subjects are welcome, as is single-colour toning.
