Dark Clouds

This photograph is a great example of the relationship between elements within a frame. The photographer has really worked hard and thought about the image thay have wanted to construct before pressing the shutter. The layers from the plants sticking out at the bottom of the frame in the foreground as our eye is then taken to the green shed before we see the tops of the other structures all siurrounded by the wild landscape before we encounter the large factory in the distance and all these are then balanced by the brooding dark clouds above. The pockets of light from breaks in the clouds create a wonderful three dimensional scene that with great technique has elevated this picture into a stunning example of Industrial landscape at the highest level. Superb. Very well done.

**This contest is open to photographers ranked 1000+ in this week’s Leaderboard.** Moody skies and shaded landscapes here, as we give some attention to less favourable weather. Dark clouds can be super-atmospheric, and turn the sky into a real feature of your images. In portrait photography they can be a great setting for some more edgy portraiture, or perhaps a perfect mirror for your subject’s mood.

Meet the expert judge

This could be a scene from a film. I'm thinking the Godfather or it could equally be a postcard. This photograph works on many levels from the scenic view to the drama behind the picture. It could be Tower Bridge or Brooklyn Bridge, it's not but it has that same feel. It is beautifully shot by the photographer and the dark clouds to the right then break into an opening in the clouds as our eye follows the bridge over the water. This is a lovely example of how light can change in seconds whilst the photographer has shown great technique and skill in making this wonderful picture. Well done.
