Design can be many things and this fine photograph really gives us an insight into how different ideas around furnishings can change in different corners of the world. The wide angle lens allows us to look around the space. With an emphasis on colored tapestries and photographs of family members and maybe the large image is of a king or president or an important member of the family taking a central position, this really shows the communal aspects of this living space with the central light on the clay roof. The photograph is pin sharp which is very good as it allows us the viewers to spend time looking around and each time I see and find something interesting to spend time with. A lovely image that educates as much as it delights visually. Well done.
The stunning design using the warm engineered woods alongside the concrete top are beautifully and thoughtfully echoed outside the interior space. The photographer using a great angle of positioning gives us the viewers a glimpse of the outside world, from the top of a terracotta tiled roof to the greenery and and concrete wall separating the private from the public. the small details like the positioning of the towel on the floor only add to that overall sense of design. Great technique and controlled exposure between the darker inside space to the light of the outside are carefully composed and considered. Great capture. Very well done.
It could be argued that great design is timeless. This still residential property in the heart of England showcases the best in history, opulence and high quality photography. When entering such a home as a photographer it is hard to know what to actually aim the lens at, we are bombarded by the vastness of what we are surrounded by. This image shows that the photographer fully understands their craft and what should be included in such a subject. The exposure is beyond reproach even in the shadow areas which are rich in detail. The choice of aperture has allowed foreground and background to be pin sharp which is essential in such a setting and the straight on positioning cannot be faulted. The image is clear and allows us the viewers to roam across the screen. I cant even imagine what it must cost to heat but then I suspect the present owners don't really have many of the same issues as most people. A classical photograph, well seen and executed of luxury and design beyond the means of all. Very well done. The little details have been really considered.

They say never shoot into the light, this image proves that theory wrong. The illumination coming from the window really gives a sense of light and space within the frame. The design elements within the room and the way the photographer has positioned the camera allows us to see the set up of the space whilst creating a visually powerful image. The use of black and white focuses our attention on the image and space itself which is beautifully rendered within the image. Very well done.
The slightly off-kilter camera angle suits perfectly the scene we are looking at. The home of an artist living in a small studio in lower Manhattan. The interior feels familiar and comforting, a space we would expect a painter to inhabit. Canvases leaning on piles of books, hanging artworks almost randomly placed on the walls where their was a space available. this dual living and working environment has been captured perfectly by the photographer's lens. The black and white adds a sense of history and nostalgia to the image whilst the wide angle lens allows additional information to be crammed in. Design is about comfort and unique styling. This interior shows us both and also it gives us an idea of who the person is that calls this home. Great capture. well done. I also really like the paintings and thank you for including the artists name.
This wonderful juxtaposition of eras colliding perfectly showcases design at different ends of the spectrum. We get to see the type of building that the contemporary furniture is housed in set within a 14th century Villa on the canals of Venice. These homes still lavish both outside and internally give a sneak preview into how modern design concepts can fit seamlessly within the walls of historic buildings. The photographer has positioned themselves perfectly to show this blend between new and old in this image that gives us a view that most will never see first hand. So nice to see how buildings can become homely through careful design. Great capture.
To some people this would be a horror show but I suspect the owner of this space could find anything very quickly. The high camera position looking down like CCTV footage gives us a unique angle onto the space and into this world. I love looking around the frame and seeing things like photo magazines, spare keyboards etc. This photograph gives us a glimpse of this persons life and how they use the space. It's really a unique take on the competition brief and works really well. Great capture.
The positioning of the seat bathed in sunlight is at the center of this charming interior. Photography is all about light and this image without the glow of the light coming through a window would be rendered dull, but the photographer has the skill and knowledge to wait to create this visually interesting and illuminating image. All the elements work together from the patterns on the rug, to the detailing in the walls and the placement of the book on the seat really lifts this image which is beautifully captured with great technique, especially the details in the highlights and the shadow at the base of the chair which then takes our eye around the frame. Well done.
There is a beautiful formality to this photograph. It is layered and our eye moves across the space from the cushion in the bottom left corner as we go up and across to the chair and lamp and the wonderful clock on the wall. the natural soft lighting crosses the frame with the highlights and shadows very well controlled. The use of black and white in relation to the furniture gives the image a nostalgic feel which works really well in the setting. A stunning almost portrait of a space. Well done.
The remains of what was. We still have clues within the photograph to imagine the space in its glory. The high arched ceilings, the majestic Adams fire surround, the details set within the door. What we are left with is a beautifully rendered photograph showcasing great technique and visual awareness to bring the space alive. I could see this as part of a larger series of abandoned spaces. Well done.
Sometimes the best images are those that only give you a glimpse into what could be. I only have my imagination of what the larger visual space could look like from the set of cushions placed within the sofa. The vivid colors really jump out especially the central square cushion looking back at us in its cubist style. The image is well lit and very sharp which is excellent and the colors really are vivid and well saturated. I can imagine the space is full of paintings in different frames adorned across the walls, with note pads and pencils everywhere, maybe a act that curls up on this sofa. I think it will be bright but I don't know and that sometimes is the magic of photography. We have to bring our imagination to the image we are looking at. Unique within the competition. Well done.
Central to many living rooms at this time of year is the Christmas Tree. This splendid example really shows off the position that the tree takes within a household and how it brings people together. The shape of the room perfectly works with the set up and placement of the tree, which looks splendid with its lights which light up the entire space and the reflections in the windows add greater depth to the image. The color balance is well controlled, not easy with the mixed temperatures of the light sources. The high camera angle draws us into this picture perfect and comforting image. Lovely.
The delicate tones work beautifully in this rendered image. The balance and soft light bring out the details in the armchair and cushions and the patterns within the materials. The almost monochromatic color palate allows each element to have its own space without losing out to any other element within the entire frame in this well seen and made photograph. Subtle and stunning. Well done.
This beautifully exposed image shows great use of photographic formal design and picture making skills alongside showing the compact and functioning design of this kitchen. The table cloth positioned at an angle works really well within the framing of the scene and draws our eye into the main space of cooker and pots alongside the perfectly scaled up plates sitting on the drainer. The small details of the functionality within the space have been exquisitely captured by the photographer. The kitchen roll placed next to the hob, The net curtains which allows soft light into the space and the two pots angled as if they were dance partners are perfectly photographed. The technique is flawless and shows the space in great detail. A stunning and well considered image. Superb.
