What I really like about this image is the mood created by the dappled sunlight, which brings to mind a lazy sunny afternoon in summer. The lighting looks to be quite challenging, but nothing has become too bright or too dark. A perfect subject choice and composition for this contest, where the steps and just part of the door visible and the key focus. The plant adds a lovely pop of colour, but does not dominate. Congratulations on your winning image.
Although defaced by graffiti, I find this an appealing image, with good perspective and viewpoint that draws attention to these slightly unusual steps on the slope of the street. The door and steps are the natural focal point, but there are plenty of other little details to hold the attention and for the eye to explore. Well done on your top ten placing.
Some images are appealing by their simplicity, but what I like here is the rather complex jumble of elements, along with daubings of graffiti on the walls, which draw the eye to the scene and invites the viewer to create a story of the location. For this contest, it was a wise choice to show the location captured in snowy weather, as the snow on the steps helps draw attention to them as a focal point, when otherwise they may have been lost within the other parts of street scene. The rather limited colour palette creates a great feel to the shot. Well done on your top ten placing.

A simple but well executed image of a traditional frontage, with the windowsill and steps adorned with pretty flowering plants. The flowers add some colour and help draw the eye to the steps. Everything in the shot looks natural with no harsh processing or over-saturation, giving a lovely relaxed feel to the image. Simple but effective, congratulations on your second place finish.
What I especially love about this image is the interesting viewpoint, as we see both the doorway in the foreground, and the slightly obscured view beyond just along the street. Shooting in locations such as this is always a challenge due to the extreme contrasts created by the bright sunlight on white-washed walls in narrow streets, but you have managed to control the extremes, without loosing depth to the image. The simple colouring of the blue and white is very appealing too. Great image, well done on your top ten placing.
A well-seen shot that many would pass by without noticing the contrast in condition of these two properties. That the two adjoining residences share a doorstep adds to the image. We cannot know whether the one on the left has fallen into disrepair, or the one on the right been pulled up and restored from a similar condition, but the contrast is fascinating. The image has been carefully presented with good symmetry and careful attention paid to upright verticals etc. Fascinating image, well done on your top ten placing.
I love the simplicity of this image, both in the style of the architecture and the straightforward approach to its capture. Everything is nicely aligned, and framing is good too, with appropriate space around the wire and catches on the wall to prevent the image looking cut-off. The design of the little doorsteps is unusual and a key feature of the image. Great colour contrasts too. Well done on your top ten placing.
A super black and white architectural image, capturing a fine set of metal steps leading to the door. Unfortunately there is no information in the image description to give any clue as to the location of the properties, but the structures look substantial and grand. The image works well in black and white with some great tones and contrasts. Well done on your top ten placing.

This contest is for your photos of doorsteps. Your image should show a step or steps which lead to the outer door of a house or other building. The steps and some part of the door must both be clearly visible in the photo. The doorstep could be empty, or used as a place to stand plants, outdoor shoes or any type of ornament etc. Please do not enter images of stairs or other types of steps; only external doorsteps will be judged in this contest. I look forward to your entries.
Although relatively small within the frame, to me the doorstep is an obvious element in the photo, and somehow by being partially obscured by the door makes it stand out in the composition. I love the simplicity of the shot, plus the attractive colour contrast between the blue and the orange. With the doors being ajar, the image is so much more interesting, as we are somehow invited up the doorstep and through the net curtain. The inclusion of the pegs on the clothes line adds a lovely little detail too. Congratulations on your third place finish.
