Empty

Thank you for entering this image, which has really caught my eye amongst the many 'road' entrances. I like the fact that your image really concentrates on the road itself, straight like an arrow, right down the middle. It gives the impression that this road is going on to eternity in its splendid emptiness.

What an eerie image - unbelievable at any other time, apart from the oil-shock in the 70s or 80s. This lockdown shock went even deeper and was even more unimageable. I suspect that you have taken the image from an over-path, which gave you this great vantage point and extra impact.

Your image left me almost speechless. It looks like a waiting room somewhere in the NHS - but they are never empty! Was this photo taken during Covid, or in a hospital outpatient department during the weekend? You could argue a case for cropping the image, esp. at the top, but on the other hand it adds to the sterile atmosphere of the room.

Thank you for your entry image. It isn't just empty, it's desolate and depressing. The leading lines of the railway tracks seem to go on forever in this vast industrial looking complex. The drab, greyish colours only enhance the feeling of vast emptiness, while the traffic sign in the front of the image acts like an exclamation mark with its bright red colour.

I can't thank you enough for entering this photo. You call it a historic document - and that's exactly what it is. More than that, it speaks more than a thousand words and pictures like this, and similar images, will stay in our minds for a very long time to come. The fact that you didn't compose it is exactly why it is so authentic. You are my very worthy winner.
