Congratulations!

This image instantly stood out among the thousands submitted because of the colours and its simplicity. Many portraits, especially 'travel portraits', have too many distracting elements in their photograph, but this image, in my opinion, is perfect. The unposed expression is real, raw, striking. Not to mention the composition and exposure is also spot on. I love this.

Well done

This photograph is simply amazing.

The sun directed by the haze gives you gives almost literal leading lines to the young man. A subtle highlights on the inside of the book and his face also draws your eye further the brightest part of the image. One of the rays of light hitting book is further adding to godly nature to the image.

If there were a prize purely on composition, this would be 1st prize. Excellent use of a wide angle lens at the widest focal length. Not many portraits if any were submitted shooting at 16mm so well done. The light on his face is gorgeous with great contrast. I wonder if it was off camera flash? The composition gives the viewer a brilliant leading line of course.

This style of flash photography is a favourite of mine. Superb use of fill-in flash to give this image a painterly fill and a great use of balancing your ambiant light in the background too which helps motivate your light. I like his expression, their looks like a story there.

We’re looking for creative and thought provoking portraits of people in their environments. Photographing portraits with the world as your backdrop can really compliment or juxtapose your subject and help tell your story, so don’t be afraid to include the scenes around your subject. Most of us don’t have the luxury of their own studio and I personally prefer environmental portraits to studio stuff for this exact reason. You can use off camera flash or natural light, its up to you. Wether your subject is a Buddhist in Cambodia or your nan in her home; tell us a story or give us a message through your photos that means something important to you.

Lovely portrait. Very sharp! Unfortunately, we cant really see the environment. I would love to have seen where this lady was, how she was sitting or leaning etc Maybe there was something in the scene that totally juxstapose her and her religion. Treat the enviornment like another model/subject and that can elevate the narrative of your image exponentially
