Everyday heroes

We really love this image of veterans captured at a Remembrance service – these men are true heroes of war who would have fought for their country. The photographer has very skilfully used a wide aperture to help isolate one of the veterans and the choice to convert the image to black and whites helps to add impact to the image. Even though much of the image is blurred thanks to the narrow aperture we can still make out some of the faces, which we really like.

A good portrait is an accurate depiction of a person, it should show off and celebrate their personality, characteristics and everything that makes them them. We want to see your best portrait that celebrates an everyday hero. It's easy to forget about the people that make our lives that little bit better and more safe, so we want you to share your skilfully captured heroes. Whether it's your local policeman, social worker, teacher, community leader, neighbour or just somebody that has inspired or helped you, share your portraits for the chance to win great prizes.
