This beautiful and very well composed picture caught us at first glance. The scene, the colors and the movement in the picture perfectly fit together and almost give the feeling of looking at an impressionistic painting. The wave rolling on the beach gives the photo even more dynamism - everything flows, everything moves. We congratulate for achieving this wonderful result!
This image definitely has a monumental touch. We can easily imagine it printed on a wall in a three meter wide size. This originates in that abstract quality in this image, its harmonic distribution of colors and tones. The viewer is still able to recognize it must be a lake or river scene with some trees populating the shore or bank of the water. The restrained colors add to the mystical touch of the whole. Congrats to the 2nd place!
Meet the expert judge
First of all, we like this picture! The picture composition is very pleasing, the ferns in the foreground are a real eye-catcher. The birches almost seem to dance in some way through their curved trunks. To fulfill the competition brief it would have needed more movement, more momentum, more experimenting. Although there is some movement in the ferns, unfortunately this is only noticeable at second glance.
This winter scene could be a potential winner in many competitions. Like in black and white photography in judging there is not only black and white but there are tones. This image didn't fulfill the brief to its whole extent because it's just a long exposure with too little 'experimental' in it. So you could ask: Why is it in the top ten? It's because of its quality in so many other areas. We loved the tones, the composition, the colors and the scene.

When looking at this picture, Monet's water lilies immediately came to our minds. This photo captivates with a selection of colors and shapes. The autumnal leaves floating in the water, blend in harmoniously and they are still recognizable as leaves despite their blurred shape. We congratulate to this photo, which invites us to contemplate!

Here's a chance to try something new and have Henrik and Perdita judge your in-camera techniques! Show us your most beautiful nature shots as a result of experimental techniques, such as panning, in-camera double exposure, out-of-focus techniques. **BUT, the photos must be created in-camera and not by post-processing**. There will be no crowd-vote, so the judges won’t consider any photos that have been obviously manipulated. Please leave a description on how you created this image in-camera. Please keep in mind that this contest is all about nature - that means photos of architecture and all other man-made things will not fit the brief and won't be considered by the judges.
