This is such a simple subject which many would pass by without a second glance (maybe not even a first glance!), but it makes a great image. You have managed to keep the horizontal lines level throughout the image which is good. Colour contrast between the yellowy lichen and the fading red paint works well, and you have avoided any temptation to over saturate or over sharpen the image. Great details, a very successful image. Well done on your top ten finish.
Of all the entries of jeans, this was my favourite image. I like the casual feel to the composition, which I imagine would actually have been quite deliberate. Lighting looks to be natural, and it helps reveal the creases and folds of the fabric, and the matte type finish to the image suits the scene. Gentle colour contrasts between the denim blue and the orange of the buttons and stitching, which have not been over-saturated. Great image, well done.
This is a bold, bright image showing some great textures and details on the fabric. You have shown a nice contrast between the smoothness of the round button, and rougher weaves of the fabric. Well composed image too, and an ideal subject choice for this "fastenings" contest. Congratulations on your top ten placing.
This is a great image, which I like more each time I look at it. Composition is very well done, with the orange bolt on the lower third left intersection, which initially draws the eye. We can then wander across the rest of the image and appreciate the variances in colour, texture and shapes which you have captured so well. The square crop works well with the subject, as does the subtle vignette. Great image, love it! Well done on your second place finish.
The top placings changed around a few times during my judging of this contest, but this great image was my eventual winner. It is a very simple image, but for me it is the simplicity which is its strength. Composition of the shot is great, with the seams on the garment and the "belt" on opposing diagonals, and the buckle right in the centre of the frame, which works well here. I also really like the tones your have achieved, with the relatively low contrast, matte feel to the shot. This has produced a wonderful natural texture on the woollen fabric, and had there been more contrast the result would likely have looked too harsh and unattractive. Superb work, congratulations on your winning image.

What I really like about this image is the depth of field you have selected to capture these ropes. There is a decent area of the image in clear focus to be able to appreciate the forms and textures of the rope, with the out of focus areas having just enough detail to allow the farthest ropes and flooring to be distinguishable, without causing the shot to be messy or confusing. I am not a great fan of digital framing, but it has worked well here. Good use of black & white too. Simple, but effective choice of subject, great work.

A fastening can be defined as a mechanical device which closes or secures something. In this contest I want to see images of any type of fastening - examples of fastenings include door bolts, window latches, buttons, zippers, buckles and laces. The fastening needs to be the focus of your image, so you will need to move in fairly close to your subject so the fastening can be clearly seen. Entries in colour or black & white will work equally well. I look forward to seeing your images of all types of fastening.

The colour is what drew me to this image initially, with the green contrasting with the red/brown of the metalwork. Well composed - simple but effective, and well exposed, with no areas either too bright or too dark. The highlights show off the smooth metal texture, and we can also see great detail in the green paintwork too. Well done on your top ten finish.
