I kept passing this photo during judging as I attempted to narrow things down. I couldn't keep my eyes off it. It's a beautiful photo and another example of wonderful composition. It also depicts action in an otherwise peaceful catch. The look on this fish's face? S/he was looking at you...

Photographing a "black" object can be a very hard thing to do. Photographing a "moving" object can be a very hard thing to do as well. Now combine the two. This photo captures depth as well as detail and accents the beauty of an otherwise "less" exotic fish. Well done!

Dang! Beautiful catch!

This photo draws me in despite the fact that the animals are grey. The lighting and use of reflection is beautiful and depicts two animals that are together - but separate (Wolfish only comingle when mating and guarding their young). The photographer caught the personality and emotion of these fish in the moment. Not an easy thing to do.

This is a beautiful photo as well as an example of simplicity at it's best. The photographer successfully caught the image of a goldfish actively swimming - which is what fish do. The slow shutter speed combined with lighting? Love it!
