Flowers With a Painterly Effect (in colour)

A nice impressionistic still life image of roses and book. Excellent lighting and composition a great starting photo that makes an ideal subject for a painterly work over. The Topaz filter has created a beautiful effect, I particularly like the treatment and texture on the books spine. The fallen petals and sacking provide a bright and lively foreground for the main focal point. The roses have a strong contrast with the dark background that helps them to pop. This image goes beyond a painterly effect and is a work of art. A combination of subtle toning and a balanced composition with a light area strategically placed that reminds me of "Snow storm: steamboat off a harbour's mouth" 1842 by J.W.M. Turner. The poppy heads and the subtle flowers forming a gentle, compelling dance. Outstanding work and a well deserved number one selection

A very nice painterly still life of Tulips. The tulip that forms the focal point is well lit and draws the attention. The light and shadows are very effective and the candle makes a good anchor and gives a balance to the image. Overall a very nice composition with a very good painterly process. This image caught my attention because it is a different style to most other images in this contest. It is very vibrant with a beautiful graduation from foreground to background making the colorful flowers pop from the screen. I am not a fan of psychedelic colors but in this case it works due to the flowers forming small islands of color in a sea of soft green and purple grasses. Well done and congratulations on being in my top ten selection.

Cherry blossom produces a very soft effect due to the color and closeness of blooms. You have managed to further enhance this by creating a very painterly impressionistic image. The flowers are cloud like and form a buoyant pink carpet. I like the loose painterly effect of this image which fills the frame. Well done and congratulations on making my top ten selection
