This gives new meaning to the word “toadstool” (even though this particular mushroom is not a toadstool). Great job waiting for the moment and capturing this playful scene! I also appreciate that the texture of the toad’s skin and mushroom’s gills is so visible; good attention to detail. Well done!

Like a lot of nature’s smaller wonders, it’s only when you start really looking for them, that you start really finding them. And wow, how exciting to see a new kind of fungus in full fruiting bloom, hoping for a positive identification, and of course getting flat on the ground and taking some great shots of it. Your shots can be fungi in the wild, in your foraging basket, or on a plate with a knife and fork poised ready for action, it’s entirely up to you!

Wonderful macro shot! “Fungus” is often associated with mushrooms, and I love seeing the intricacies of another common form here: mold. The hairy texture is especially evocative. Great job paying attention to detail and including some of the peach flesh, as well. Well done!

The title of this photograph is very apt! I love seeing the ascension of the fungus up the side of the tree trunk; each mushroom cap looks like a stair step a small creature or fairy could use. Great job with perspective and leading lines. I also love the lighting of this image; there is a warm, ethereal glow coming from the tree and fungus, which adds to the fantastical vibe. Great job!

I love the overhead perspective in this photograph. It really calls attention to the geometry and coloring of the fungus and makes it appear more abstract. It almost looks like it’s blooming! Great attention to detail and composition, too. Well done!
