Graffiti and street art

August 2025

Well done getting the exposure so perfect which can't have been easy - it's very easy to over expose light painting shots. Great idea combining the light stick/wand and the sparklers. I have not seen that combination before - they work really well together. The light thrown onto the graffiti and floor really helps frame the shot although it might have been nice to see a little more of the tunnel before it went completely to black - maybe a lightstick hidden behind you could have given a little more light to the tunnel allowing the graffiti to link to the 'light sculpture' without having the darkness separate them... Over all a great image, well imagined and executed.

I just love these lines. So much going on yet at the same time it is quite simple. The black and white lines sit nicely against the horizontal brick work. The circles are a great contrast to all the straight lines and angles and having the red it really pops. Great timing on the time of day that you took this picture - the shadows at exactly the perfect angle.

A lovely atmospheric image. Great composition, good exposure and fascinating to look around in detail. The traditional art off set by the more modern medical advert. I love the mans thoughtful yet tired pose and he really brings the whole picture to life having him resting in exactly the right position in the frame. Shame he wasn't covered in paint so we could tell he was the artist!

**This contest is open to photographers ranked 1001+ in this week’s Leaderboard.** Graffiti remains controversial, even though Banksy’s street art has brought a new cachet and air of respectability to the genre, along with a lot of collectors’ money. Graffiti ranges from simple ‘tags’ of the artist’s name, or slogans daubed on walls, bridges and the like, through to elaborate and stunning murals, sometimes with a social or political theme. Shooting work for this contest offers the photographer a good reason to trawl their local town or city looking for interesting street art, in interesting places.
