This is not an image I would like on my wall but that said it has the fun factor of black humour. Harsh lighting and make up pull the image out of the darkness in a theatrical pose. Red and black are the ultimate punch colours and used well here. The deep depth of focus also works well on a male subject as a contrast to the softer entries that use a shallow depth to portray a more feminine look. Congratulations.
Sometimes the elements of a portrait fall into place. Firstly the hair colour blends in well with the background despite some bleeding of colour which may be due to post processing or chromatic abberation from the lens. It has a slightly vintage film feel that was probably due to a high ISO that has grained it slightly. The light area to the top left and different pattern that portrays a building join should put me off but somehow it adds to a street portrait feeling with the light area blending with the snow and coat trimmings. What this portrait really excels at is a feeling of friendship between the subject and photographer in the same way that the Mona Lisa has a quality that is hard to define. This of course may not be the case but at the end of the day I like it. Congratulations on a top 10 place.

This portrait really stands out for its quality, processing and composite blending. The background gives it a painted portrait quality that would not look out of place in a the 16th century. The pearls on the wig and clothes just create a magical 3D punch to the image. It may not be the most attractive of portraits but it still manages to hold the viewer long enough to scrutinize every curl, frill and blemish to the make up on the face. To top it off the humour in the details comment is just a cherry on the cake. Congratulations!

For this contest I would like to see your best portrait photos of people with dyed hair or wearing a wig. One or more people may appear in the image but the theme needs to be prominent. Whilst I will take any humour factor into consideration I will also look for quality of lighting or the part the environment may play in your image. I will be judging this contest without knowing who has entered each image so please do not enter images with watermarks or author identification. I look forward to seeing your work.
