Hot Summer Days

This is another image that perfectly captures the long, hot days of summer. It's a nice, simple composition, but what works for me is the way attention has been drawn to the centre using the silhouette as a framing device, but with just enough shadow detail to get a sense of the wider setting. It really brings across the serenity of the moment.

Cutting people's heads off is usually a faux pas, but this clever example of rule-breaking makes the image rather more interesting. The quirky composition is all the better for its unusual underwater viewpoint, while the colour desaturation neatly draws attention to the main subject. Nicely done!

Aside from the black-and-white treatment adding to the documentary feel, it's a nicely balanced and well-timed composition that easily brings across childhood spontaneity and carefreeness.
