Many thanks to all who entered the contest and for submitting photographs depicting such a wide range of human emotions.
In my judging I was looking for creative interpretations of the brief and also for those images which brought me an immediate emotional reaction. This is obviously a very subjective approach but suffice to say that very many images met these selection criteria and I had real difficulty selecting a top ten.
This, my first placed image is such a delight to look at and a visual confirmation of the joy of life. Strangely, although it’s presented in monochrome my brain insists on seeing it in colour with sunlight from a clear blue sky streaming through her golden hair.
It’s a beautiful photograph and well worthy of a first placing …. congratulations.

Oh but I love everything about this photograph, shooting through the window has introduced rain patterns, reflections and distortions that make for a most creative entry.
Proof if any were needed that emotion is not just about facial expression but body language too.
Melancholic indeed and a most worthy top ten placing …… well done.

The tear-stained face, staged setting, colourful lighting and low viewpoint make for a most theatrical shot and a moving depiction of unhappiness in all its guises.
Reading your description this is one image in a sequence or series and it would be most interesting to see other photographs in the story.
Well done on your top ten placing.
A beautifully conceived and expertly executed image is this and also very funny too.
We’ve all been there, a bad day at the office or some simple task that just keeps going wrong. The anger and pent-up frustration builds and builds and then we blow our tops just like this poor fellow.
Well done on a most creative entry ……
Almost the exact opposite on the emotional spectrum to my first placed image this is the most emotive entry in my top ten and beautiful but very sad viewing.
The close-up face, wide eyes and tear stained cheeks make for an uncompromising image that really does pack a visual punch.
Black and white is the only way to go here …. congratulations on your top ten placing.

I would like to see your photos which you feel best convey a strong sense of human emotion, something we all experience and witness in our everyday lives with common examples being happiness, sadness, fear, anger and love. Please be as creative as possible in your interpretation of the brief and move me with the strength of the emotions you convey but please no images which display explicit sex or violence. Colour and monochrome entries are both acceptable. I look forward to seeing how strongly your entries move me.
