A scene portraying a strange kind of beauty, that of industrial chimneys belching forth, set in such a calm and serene setting. Colours are lovely, looking natural rather than heavily manipulated or composited in, the peachy-purples of dawn add to the calm of the mood. Composition works well, with a fairly wide view and virtually equal balance between water and sky. Ths reflections look unforced but add interest to the foreground. Congratulations on your winning image.
I love this shot, capturing a more-or-less circular scene made up of the fishing huts in the fireground and the structures of the steelworks beyond. Conversion to black and white works well with the subject, as it seems to add drama with the bold contrasts and the textures of the billowing smoke set against the stormy sky. Great work, well done on uour top ten placing.
A striking image, taking on a rather abstract feel due to the strong reflections and the abundance of straight verticals piercing the gloriously orange sky and water. The little pops of artificial lights add authenticity to the shot, confirming it was taken at sunset rather than artificially dropping in a more dramatic sky. Great composition, with good space on each side of the far right and left uprights to prevent the scene looking chopped off. Congratulations on your third place finish.
A rather grim scene, perfect for this contest. Composition is great, with the large pool of water dominating the fireground, but linking to the buildings in the background through the reflections. The presentation of the image suits the subject, with the square crop and the grey tones adding to the mood and the sense of grim and mundane. Great image, well done on your top ten placing.
For anyone fortunate enough to have visited Iceland's Blue Lagoon, it is a rather strange and incongruous place, with the deeply relaxing warm/hot waters and the mountains in view one direction, and the powerplant, responsible for the water as a by-product of its processes visible looking in the other direction. This images captures all that wonderfully, giving the viewer a real sense of the place. The slow shutter speed has nicely smoothed the water, and added a soft wisp to the steaming chimneys. Congratulations on your second place finish.

This contest is for your photos of industrial buildings and structures within their wider surrounding landscape. Please do not enter images showing general cityscapes, shops and office blocks, nor close up views of industrial buildings; only industry along with its surrounding landscape. The setting can be urban or rural, and the industrial structure could either be a relic of the past or still surviving and thriving. Some examples are docks, cargo ports, quarries and mine workings, power stations, refineries and windfarms. Entries can be in colour or black and white. I look forward to your entries.
