Thanks for submitting this image which stood out for me for it's very strong composition. I appreciate the detail of the leaves in the foreground, the framing continuing further back into the frame with the larger plants, and the structural detail in the background. The light and colours bring depth to the frame, with the orange of the flowers and leaves bringing interest. I appreciate the subtle human element too. Congratulations on first place!

Meet the expert judge
Thank you for submitting this image which stood out for me as a striking graphic treatment of the forms and structures so often found in glasshouses. The lines of the leaves seem at one with the human structure above them - matching in tone as well as form - which seems fitting with the subject. I appreciate the symmetry within the composition, the exposure and the contrast balance. Congratulations on third place!

**This contest is open to photographers ranked 1001+ in this week’s Leaderboard.** Greenhouses have a history dating back hundreds of years, and have enabled the production of food that would otherwise not have been possible in that place, or at that time of year. They came into their own during the Victorian era, and range from small cold frames for growing vegetables, through the greenhouses seen in many back gardens, to the vast palm houses that were constructed in many public gardens and parks. Nowadays they also include impressive geodesic domes such as the Eden Project in Cornwall, UK, and the Climatron at the Missouri Botanical Garden in St Louis.
