Great contest!

First of all, thanks for entering my contest. This photo you have taken here is totally awesome. I love how the kingfisher really looks like an angel! And it is very unique and odd that you just so happened to catch the perfect moment when the kingfisher put its head down and its wings way up to take off from its branch. It is also really cool how its head did not show up AT ALL. Just the wings, feathers, and back! Another thing that is great about this photo is the atmosphere. It has a really nice dark brown color to it. The plants look really cool too, they add way more interest to the photo and fill it up more. And the last thing I wanted to point out is the kingfisher's wings! They are amazing looking with the sunlight on them, it makes the whole entire photo SO much better!!! So fabulous job on this photo and taking a photo good enough for Second Place!

First of all, thanks for entering my contest. This photo you have taken here is probably as good as you get for a kingfisher photo!!! I love the action of the photo. If you wanted to show someone a photo of a Kingfisher in Action, this would probably be close to the photo. There is water splashing, a fish squirming, a kingfisher determined to keep its fish, etc. Everything about this photo is just totally incredible and I also love the background because it is nice to be able to actually see some stuff back there! Also, it is pretty cool how when you look at the very tip of the kingfisher's wings at left, they are blurry, but then the more you go to the right, the blurriness gradually fades. This is very neat. The water droplets are another amazing thing. They are big, small, round, flat, straight, and more! And the the last thing I wanted to point out is the kingfisher! Its colors are gorgeous, its face is fabulous, its eye is fierce, and its dive was successful!!! So unbelievable job on this photo and taking a photo good enough to be my First Place Winner!!!

First of all, thanks for entering my contest. This photo you have taken here is fabulous! I love the battle between the kingfishers and how fierce they look! (or maybe the kingfisher on the right is a young kingfisher with the mom feeding it?) I never realized until this contest how mean and fierce kingfishers really are! I also love the way the big branch curves. And it is amazing how big the fish is and that these little birds can actually swallow them whole! And the last thing I wanted to point out is the quality! I love how in focus and sharp everything is, this photo looks like it should be not very sharp but it manages to be! So amazing job on this photo!

First of all, thanks for entering my contest. This photo you have taken here is terrific!!! I love how awesome this action shot is and how sharp everything is! The bright green in the background is super cool and makes the photo even more exciting. The kingfisher looks very upset that it has been unsuccessful. And the last thing I wanted to point out is the water! The water that the kingfisher is splashing is really cool, and the reflections are amazing! There is so much detail, shapes, and colors on that water! So fabulous job on this photo!!!

First of all, thanks for entering my contest. This photo you have taken here is super cool. I love how the whole surrounding area looks. I also really love the expression of the kingfisher! It looks surprised and (surprisingly...) Embarrassed! I have no idea why or how it looks like that but that is the first thought that came to me! Maybe it is so surprised that its catch has gotten away that it is like "where did it go?"! And the last thing I wanted to point out is the squirrel in the background! Looking at this photo, at first all I saw is the kingfisher and the interesting surroundings, but I looked again a couple days later and then saw the squirrel! It is very cool that you happened to get a kingfisher and a squirrel at the same time! So fabulous job on this photo!

First of all, thanks for entering my contest. This photo you have taken here is tremendous! Everything about it just could not be better. I love the kingfisher and how it is so sharp and in focus. Another thing that is very interesting is that the kingfisher's eye is closed! It makes the photo way more unique because there are not a super lot of kingfisher photos where the kingfisher's eye is closed like this! And the water that is being splashed makes the photo way more interesting and exciting. So amazing job on this photo!

First of all, thanks for entering my contest. This photo you have taken here is tremendous! I love how still the kingfisher is. I also love that its mouth is open because photos of kingfishers diving usually have their mouths closed as the hit the water so this is pretty cool! And the last thing I wanted to point out is the reflection! It is PERFECTLY identical to the real kingfisher. Usually the reflection is a little bit weird looking in photos of kingfishers diving but the water here was so smooth and still that it came out looking like a mirror was under the kingfisher! So fabulous job on this photo and taking a photo good enough for Sixth Place!

First of all, thanks for entering my contest. This photo you have taken here is amazing. I love how the kingfisher's eye is closed! Whenever a kingfisher closes one of its eyes, it looks really unique and cool! Another thing that is amazing is that the water droplets that move so fast came out so clear and sharp, there is no blurriness at all on even one of them! And the last thing I wanted to point out is the kingfisher's striking colors! Blue and Orange... That's it but sometimes, just two colors can make a photo entirely different and in this case it sure did! Wow, just wow at how bright and gorgeous that Blue and Orange is! No other photo had the colors come out like this! The light must have been absolutely perfect for the photo. The green background looks great too! So awesome job on this photo and taking a photo good enough for Fourth Place!

First of all, thanks for entering my contest. This photo you have taken here is awesome! I love the faces and expressions of the kingfishers!!! They look so mad about something! I wanted to make sure there was at least one photo in my Top Ten of this contest that was of kingfishers fighting with each other, so I chose this one, I chose it because it was the best quality photo of kingfishers fighting. So great job on this photo and taking a photo good enough for Eighth Place!

First of all, thanks for entering my contest. This photo you have taken here is creative and cool. I like the Negative Space of the photo. Negative Space is when there is pretty much nothing in the photo except for a small portion of the photo which is the subject. Well here you've got the kingfisher way down at the bottom taking only a little bit of space up and that really cool old wall which makes it an absolutely perfect example of a negative space photo! It would have been terrific if you would have edited the photo in a little bit of a different way to get the kingfisher to stand out more and maybe cropped it? Because the kingfisher does not completely pop or stand out as much as it should but please do not take this as negative, it is just some advice that would have made the photo look even better, it is amazing and one of the uniquest, most creative, really cool kingfisher photos I have ever seen! Maybe you could edit it again using this advice to get it to look even better! Do what ever you want to do with this masterpiece!!! So incredible job on this photo and taking a photo good enough for Fifth Place!

First of all, thanks for entering my contest. This photo you have taken here is very interesting and cool! I love how you have captured a moment, the moment a kingfisher spots its prey and is certain to grab it. This photo here is probably literally the only photo of a kingfisher actually looking happy! All the other photos was of them catching a fish so they looked strong and fierce, loosing the fish so they looked mad, or fighting with each other which makes them also look mad, I guess if they are diving they look normal but in all of these cases, they never look happy, this time, it looks happy because the damselfly you can tell flew right up to where the kingfisher was perching which made it an easy meal! I also noticed your other photo titled "Jackpot" that was taken about a second after this one that I also Highly Commended. And the last thing I wanted to point out is the nice dark background. It could have not worked out better that you happened to be in a spot where the background was dark like this because it made the damselfly show up so much better and you can easily see it! So amazing job on this photo!!!

First of all, thanks for entering my contest. This photo you have taken here is awesome! I love the humor and that you have taken just about the shot of a lifetime! I bet pretty much every photographer wishes that they could take a photo like this! It is so awesome that you were able to take this photo in such good quality and in such great timing!!! But what is weird is that the kingfisher looks like it is about to drop its prey! So terrific job on this photo!

First of all, thanks for entering my contest. This photo you have taken here is perfect. I can not believe you have captured the absolute perfect moment when the very VERY tip of the kingfisher's mouth touches the surface of the water. Literally the only thing that could have been better is that the kingfisher is perfectly straight but the striking colors of its body makes up for that! Speaking of the colors on its body, they look amazing, I have never seen a kingfisher with so many different bright colors! There is green, yellow, blue, white, brown, and a tiny touch of red! This photo is amazing and I just can NOT get over it! So incredible job on this photo and taking a photo good enough for Third Place!

First of all, thanks for entering my contest. This photo you have taken here is fabulous! I love the expression of the Oriental Dwarf Kingfisher because it looks SO irritated as to why the crab would even bother squirming when it has no escape. How the photo is dark made it so unique and different compared to the others in this contest. Another thing that is really cool is that the kingfisher is eating a Crab! They were eating fish and bugs in all of the other photos in this contest but never a crab, this was another plus for this photo. The moss all over the branch is really gorgeous. Another thing, is the reason this photo fit the brief for Kingfishers in Action is because it is not just a photo of a kingfisher sitting there with its prey, its prey is squirming to escape, and the kingfisher is being careful and using its techniques to keep its prey. And the last thing I wanted to point out is the kingfisher's Colors! This is the most gorgeous kingfisher I have EVER seen! There is pinkish purple, glowing purple, yellow, white, black, grey, orange, and glowing blue! It is wonderful and amazing. This photo is just about the most beautiful kingfisher photo ever taken! So tremendous job on this photo and taking a photo good enough for Ninth Place!

First of all, thanks for entering my contest. This photo you have taken here is totally awesome! (I was thinking about this photo and if it is off brief or on brief and I realized that since it is cleaning and doing something, it is still in action, I would have been pretty sad to drop this one if it had been off brief!) I love the background, it is light colored and has a very nice tone to it. Another thing that is great about this photo is the simplicity! It is just the kingfisher, the branch, and the background. I also really like the branch because it has so much detail since it has so many chips and scratches, it makes the entire photo way better. And the last thing I wanted to point out is that I really like that the kingfisher has one bright blue stripe down its back, this is very interesting to me as I have never noticed that kingfishers have this cool stripe. So fabulous job on this photo!!!

First of all, thanks for entering my contest. This photo you have taken here is perfect! The first thing I want to say is this photo right here is just about as perfect as you get for a kingfisher photo, I am sure it took you at least a few years to achieve this shot. I read about the photographer named Alan McFadyen who took 720,000 photos of kingfishers to get the one perfect one he wanted which was almost identical to this, the only difference was that the very tip of the kingfisher's mouth was touching the water, here is a link to the photo he took!

Anyway, your photo here is totally awesome. I really love the tan background and how the kingfisher's wings are perfectly the same on both sides!!! So excellent job on this photo!

First of all, thanks for entering my contest. This photo you have taken here is super awesome! I love the kingfisher's expression! He does not even look scared or concerned about jumping on the the plant. Another thing that is amazing about this photo is that you have captured the perfect moment right before the kingfisher lands on the cattail, it is so awesome. I also really like the dark background color. So tremendous job on this photo!

First of all, thanks for entering my contest. This photo you have taken here is totally awesome. I love how different the kingfisher looks since it is underwater. All of the minnows look really cool. It is also cool that you can see a giant rock in the (near) distance, it makes this photo look more exciting and interesting. And the last thing I wanted to say is I always want as unique of a photo as I can get that fits the brief for my 10th Place photo because then it is like a Finale to the Top Ten. The reason I chose this photo for 10th Place is because it was the ONLY photo of a kingfisher underwater which makes it super unique. It is amazing you captured this moment! So awesome job on this photo and taking a photo good enough for 10th Place!

First of all, thanks for entering my contest. This photo you have taken here is amazing. I love the kingfisher's irritated face as it is mad it has so much water on itself or maybe the water went in its eyes or something? Not sure, but what I am sure about is that you have captured the water droplets PERFECTLY! You even captured two "rings" of water around its mouth! I also really like the background because it is nice to have a background where you can actually make out detail and not have a solid one, solid backgrounds are awesome, but not always, most of the time, the more natural the better. And the last thing I wanted to point out is the dry branch! I really like all of the detail and it looks like a cool piece of drift wood but the best thing of all is that is has one little branch to the left which the kingfisher is resting on and it looks like it was made for the kingfisher! It is the perfect size! So fabulous job on this photo!!!
