Using a wide lens to capture these spindly trees gives a wonderful perspective, looking upwards to the tree tops as they reach for the sky. Conversion to black and white adds to the abstract, keeping things simple and showcasing the shapes of the bare branches against the bright shite sky. Congratulations on your third place finish.
Such images can be very hit-and-miss, with little variation in panning technique, exposure, and base landscape making big differences to the overall success of the shot. The shapes distinguishable through the movement blur - the background hills and the foreground water channels - are perfectly captured to just give an impression and suggestion of the landscape, rather than a detailed visual description. Great creative image, well done on your top ten placing.
A striking image, both beautiful and intriguing at the same time. On initial viewing it is not immediately obvious as to the scale of this shot, whether a miniature landscape of clumps of moss and lichen, or a wide landscape of sparce vegetation spread over some distance. It is that aspect which helps maks the abstract stronger, as the viewer is drawn in and has questions to ask. Colours are great, with the pops of bright green against the grey/brown ground. The inclusion of the sketchy path through the landscape provides a great focal point. Congratulations on your second place finish.
A beautiful image, both documenting the landscape and presenting the scene in a quite abstract way. Lighting is lovely, looking to be captured in the golden hour of the evening, with the long shadows cast by the trees adding another dimension. Framing is great, with enough landscape included to give context within the abstract, but close enough in to see all the details of the shapes and textures of all the elements down below us. Great image, well done on your top ten placing.
A simple but effective abstract landscape, perfectly fitting the theme of the contest. I love the composition, with the three parallel bands running horizontally across the frame, roughly dividing the image into three. The colours of the different parts of the landscape are in perfect harmony, graduating from darker to paler pinky browns. Congratulations on your winning image.

This contest is for your photos of non-urban landscapes that have been captured in an abstract way, maybe through creative composition, use of lines, shapes, colours or tones etc. Please do not enter images where abstract effects such as painterly style or distortions have been added in photo editing. Images can show any landscape captured outside of urban areas, from the mountains to the coast. Photos can be in colour or black and white. I look forward to seeing your entries.
