Wow, I love how much detail and texture are visible here! Great use of macro photography and color to capture the essence of the decaying leaf. Like human wrinkles imply wisdom and experience, all of these veins and splotches make me think this leaf (and its tree) have rich stories to tell. Well done!

**This contest is open to photographers ranked between 1 and 250 in this week’s Leaderboard.** Whilst we include trees, shrubs and other plants in our landscape images, we seem to be less inclined to get up and personal with the beautiful leaves that clothe them, for at least half the year. It is indeed one of the joys of photography that it can encourage an appreciation of our world on different scales. For this contest we’d like to focus in a little more detail on the structure and colour and variety and interplay of leaves. That said, images of trees and shrubs in their entirety are of course welcomed, but let’s make the leaves the stars, whether they be on the tree, off the tree, green, brown, flat or needle-shaped.
