Leaves

May 2022

What a spectactular scene, I envy you for having been there. The elk is well framed and the aspen trees and the shrubs in the foreground create pleasing, regular layers which can be hard to find in nature. The colour management is spot on. Pity, the animal didn't look straight at you but we can't have it all.

A stunning image of a Japanese maple which is delightfully framed and lit giving it an almost impressionistic feel. The leaves seem to be swirling and the colours harmonize well with just the right amount of green adding interest in the background.

**This contest is open to photographers ranked between 251 and 1000 in this week’s Leaderboard.** Whilst we include trees, shrubs and other plants in our landscape images, we seem to be less inclined to get up and personal with the beautiful leaves that clothe them, for at least half the year. It is indeed one of the joys of photography that it can encourage an appreciation of our world on different scales. For this contest we’d like to focus in a little more detail on the structure and colour and variety and interplay of leaves. That said, images of trees and shrubs in their entirety are of course welcomed, but let’s make the leaves the stars, whether they be on the tree, off the tree, green, brown, flat or needle-shaped.
