I really liked this relaxed image of the polar bear lying in the snow and showing how comfortable these animals are living in such harsh, cold conditions. There is no description but I think this image was probably taken in Churchill at the start of winter while the bears were waiting for the sea to freeze over. Well done on the exposure. I liked the rim lighting and the fact that there is still detail in the fur.

This very well fed grey squirrel with his fur puffed up to keep him warm during the snowstorm shows how these animals keep themselves warm in the icy winter weather. He seems to be shaking himself, but all the fur is well defined in the image.

Excellent image of a bald eagle battling against the blizzard and freezing conditions. The composition is spot on and the focusing on the bird's head, beak and eye immediately drew my attention to the bird. Well done for producing this image in such challenging conditions.

Not sure what sort of animal this is, perhaps someone will tell me, I think it could be a wolf, but wasn't sure or maybe a wild cat. However, seeing it curled up and sleeping in the snow with a very thick coat of fur, I presume it is a wild animal.

Great idea, showing the cold and isolation of the animal. I feel the composition could be improved by having the bear to the left of the image on the lower third., rather than on the right hand side looking out of the image. However, this is only my opinion and it is still an excellent image.

For this contest I want photographs of cold places, polar regions, mountain areas, in fact anywhere cold, snowy and difficult to live in. The images should contain either animals (not including people) or plant life or both. I look forward to seeing your images of animals or plants living in cold hostile environments. I do not want to see images which have been edited using computer software such as Photoshop to add animals etc. to snow scenes.
