Lighting in Portraits...

This photo is beautiful, and it perfectly captures the brief I gave. You've creatively used the light to create a pattern across the model's face, and it looks so effective -being taken in black and white.- I love the way one of the panels of light is positioned over the model's eye, as it really brings her eyes to life and draws your focus to them. I also like the way the model isn't standing front on the camera, and the way you have her looking over her shoulder straight into the lens. It makes the photo look really relaxed and effortless. Overall, I really love this photo. An amazing entry into the contest. Well done!

This image is so simple and stunning. It's so original, and I've never really seen another image like it. The way the natural light is shining through the fence (creating highlights and shadows on the model's face) is really unique and beautiful. I love the way the model is staring straight into the lens, as it adds an intensity to the image. You've captured the detail in her eyes beautifully. By taking the image in black and white, the details within the image really stand out, and you get that hard contrast between highlights and shadows. By using natural lighting, you're able to really see the freckles on the model's face, and the way the hair is lying across the side of her face again adds to the softness of the image. I love the composition, and the angle the photo has been taken from. It fits the brief perfectly, well done!

The way the light is used in this photo really effectively creates warmth within it. The contrast between the highlights and the shadows is beautiful, and I love the way only parts of the subjects faces are illuminated by the sunlight. Composition wise, I really like the way the subjects are positioned, and I love the position from which the photo has been taken. The use of bokeh within the image really helps draw the focus to the subject closest to camera, and creates a nice softness within the image (that compliments the warm tones.) This image is so simple, yet stunning. The way the beams of light are shining through the window, and only illuminating the models legs adds mystery to the photo (as the face is in the shadows.) I love the way you can see the dist floating in the air within the beams of light, as it really helps emphasise the location of the image. The decision to use the light in the way you did (not having it on the models face,) makes this a really unique portrait. An image that fits the brief perfectly, well done!

What a beautiful image. The way you have the model illuminated by the natural light shining through the large window really draws your focus to her. The red skirt the model is wearing really contrasts with the plain white colour scheme of the rest of the image, and creates a really unique look. Composition wise, I love the way you have the model stood quite a distance away from the camera, as it allows her to stand out in the big empty space that surrounds her. I also really like the decision to have the model facing away from the camera, and looking out of the window. An excellent shot, well done!

I love this photo so much. The way the sunlight is shining through the branches and illuminating the model's face is stunning. The way the light is shining on her head and face makes her look very angelic and innocent, and the use of natural light adds a nice warmth to the image. I like the way you've captured a very natural pose, with the subject pushing the branches out of the way as if she were walking through the bushes. I really love the originality of this image, and the use of the coloured lights is amazing. The warmth of the pink light really contrasts with the cooler tones of the blue light, and have been used effectively to capture a beautiful shot. I really like the position the model is in, as it creates something really interesting to look at.
