Tiny and fast-moving, ants are incredibly difficult to photograph. Our third-place winner has done a great job in keeping the ant sharp while capturing the moment where it’s bridging between two rocks. The image has a luscious and saturated green tone to it, and the blurred-out background frames the ant in the centre perfectly. The composition of the image is strong; by including the edges of the rocks it reminds us just how small this creature is. Being out on location and getting a macro result like this is tricky, so well done.
