Macro still life

March 2026

The lighting and tone of this image are stunning and carefully composed. I was intrigued by what this was an image of and was still captivated after reading the description. This is a great photo and is a definitely worth a mention.

I love this image - the tones work really well and with the form of the leaves, it feels delicate and pleasing to the eye. This is quite a stunning image that is soft and always has a quiet movement that is captivating and beautiful.

With macro being the theme, there were bound to be a plethora of water droplet shots, but this is by far my favourite. The rich colours and spacing make this a great abstract macro. Had to write on this even if it wasn't the top shot.

This is a different subject for this macro from the usual, which is great. I love the abstract form and tonal range. The muted colours and delicate shapes and forms like flowers. It is well executed and composed. A very considered shot.

Nature's architecture and intricate design at its finest on display in this award winning image. I love the golden hues reflected in the texture of frost. Stunning detail capturing a finite moment in time. Strength and beauty in fragile transience.

Beautiful colours and rich textures make this a fantastic abstract image. I love the fact that this was found in a bus shelter - great works can be found in the most interesting places. I just had to write a review on it.

I love this image. There is stillness and movement which can often be difficult to capture so well and in such detail. The contrast in texture and tone create a lovely juxtaposition. But overall, there is an air of balance that makes this macro worth writing about.

Romanesco broccoli makes a great subject for macro. Like certain shells and other concentric shapes, it lends itself to being photographed on a small scale. This one in particular has such grandeur it almost seems impossible that is such a small subject. The lighting and composition is also great.

This is a great image and it is apparent that this was carefully thought about - the colours, the shapes and the form. The colours and tones and varying size of the bubbles makes this a fantastic abstract macro shot which has been well executed.

This looks like it was inspired by Edward Weston. I must say that the tonal and lighting works well with the subject which has incredible detail in and the black and white tone works incredibly well. Well executed and composed.

Here are two genres - macro and still life - that seem tailor made for each other. Both require a degree of attention to detail and allow for more contemplation of the subject matter - its placement, lighting, and composition. Still life is imagery of inanimate objects (both natural and manmade) and these offer the opportunity for the macro photographer to be deliberate and calculated in their approach.
