Masks

A picture from a future of robots posing as humans? Or is the author suggesting human bodies are machines as well? In any case, I see a lot of poetry here, touching both the emotions and the mind of the viewer. The finger lines and the lights leading the viewer to the greenish, lifeless eyes are a piece of mastery.

Wonderfully minimalist, a faceless mask forces you to reflect on the vagueness, made-up nature of identity. The lack of face is perfectly reflected in the lack of color, everything here is scale of grey, and the low definition adds force here to the whole image.

A superb cinematic use of black and white, and a face it takes you a few second to understand is a mask. Besides the old mystery movie atmosphere, I love the great use of props both in the foreground and in the background, and the small details, as the revered writing on the top left corner, disseminated here as indicia for a crime

Probably the best masked group photo in this contest. The character are marvelous and new to me, sort of aggressive jolly jokers to my eyes. The one in the first row is apparently their leader, wearing pins as if they were war medals. The small window disclosing nice female lips is a treat.

Among the best Venetian pictures. The superb use of focus and blur gives a sense of vertigo, and adds mystery to the the individual under the mask. The straight posture, the sealed lips and the firm eyesight suggest determination and authority. The withe shirt and wig enhances the whiteness of the background palace. Great work.

Taking pics in a foggy light is challenging indeed, but in this case it succesfully contributed to building up the otherworlddly athmosphere of this shot. Body postures effectively match with the background trees, leading the eyes to the silent conversation between the two masks. Unforgettable scene.

Here I see a superb use of guiding lines, driving the viewer to the mask first and from there to the glove, to the mask again and then to the way out. The electric blue contributes to the sense of entrapment, and the girl is ambiguously turning her face, either as a guide or as a threat. Amazing shot

Superb central framing, minimalist use of color and an incredibly effective background choice make this masked character an amazing sci-fi villain. I love the way he is staring at the viewer, and the hand gesture protruding in the same direction. The yellow horns and eyes go very well woth the desert tones, and succeed in making perceive it as real.

Probably the best Venetian picture in the lot. The pastel tones, the blurry background and the magic of Venice iself make the viewer feel inside a fairy tale. The hat feathers enhance the sense of movement siggested by the gondola, and the small Italian flag compensate the visual weight at the left. Bravo!
