Terrific shot of Beachy Head Lighthouse. The extreme edge position works really well for me as it just helps show the vastness of the scene. I can imagine this as a large print. I was there recently and it's very windy so am envious of the sharpness. And finally, the blue/teal colours are great too. Very well done!
Firstly, a huge thanks to everyone for entering my minimalism contest. I've been genuinely inspired by the images entered and it's really made me question and debate the nature of minimalism in photography. In short, it's not been easy to judge! But, I have to choose a winner and this striking image gets my first place. It certainly fits the brief but what I really love is the brave composition ignoring the general rule of thirds. For me at least, minimalism is about evoking emotions through photography and this perfectly captures a sense of isolation and loneliness. Very well done indeed.

Such a fabulous shot and another one that fits my minimalism brief perfectly. Certainly different to all the landscape shots I saw which I commend. I really like its off-centre placement and the colours are fantastic. Tack sharp with nice blurred out background. It's clever and clearly needed a lot of skill to create. Very well done.

I really like this - the composition is very simple yet very effective. Three is always a pleasing number in photography and the posts balance the image well. Shooting at f5.6 has helped remove any distractions and of course fog is great for that too. I hope the artist has this printed on their wall. Well done.

I'm a bit of a sucker for long exposure sea shots so many thanks to the artist for submitting this image. I love the negative space and the gentle sweep of the old pier. There's also a nice touch of tone in the foreground to help lead the eye down the shot. I find it a very calming image. Well done.
I love this, particularly as it shows how minimalism can be interpreted. As a father it's a scene I'm very familiar with and it really made me smile. The negative space might've been too much but the subtle scuff marks in the floor leading to the boy (I like to think caused by him racing around) really work. Excellent image, well done.
My second place went to this terrific image - I found the composition simple but really very effective with the distant boat providing a nice balance to the image. The soft/sharp focus is really pleasing and the subtle tones resonated with me. I hope this artist has it printed on their wall...great work and well done.
This certainly ticks all the minimalism boxes for me. Simple, great use of negative space and I really like the way the reflection disperses into the ripples of the water. It was perhaps tempting to shoot this with a slow shutter to create a mirror image but at 1/160th I think this works really nicely to create that fading away effect. Excellent inspiring image, well done.
The textures and tones in this image are really striking, particularly the contrast between the sharp edge of the beach and soft water. Is it minimalist? It's an image that I debated but decided, for me, it is. The colours and steel tones are stunning and I could easily see this in a gallery. I really like the sharp edge leading out to sea and soft horizon. Good job.

The world can be a chaotic place, the brief here is to show your best minimalist images. No clutter. No distractions. Just peace and calm and a great use of negative space. I'm inspired by the works of great minimalist photographers such as Michael Kenna and hope to be inspired seeing the images you enter. Either monochrome or colour is fine. All post-processing is permitted. Landscape, architecture, macro...all good. Just keep it simple. Good luck!

A lovely minimalist image, very well done. I find the sweeping curve from the right hand corner really pleasing and of course the long exposure of 242 seconds has smoothed out the sea nicely. The post gives a nice little detail that I think really helps the image. Excellent work, many thanks for entering the contest.
I like this...a lot. I love adventure travel and just wish I was there. Is it minimal? Again, this shot caused me some debate and I think you could argue it's not. In fact there's a huge amount of detail. However, there's only one subject which helps and because the background is all similar I think you could argue it is. Either way, it's a cracking story-telling image and thank you for entering.
