This is a round where you might want to set yourself the challenge of capturing a fast-moving subject in a fraction of a second, or at the other end of the photographic spectrum, you might want to choose a shutter speed of several seconds in order to reflect the movement of clouds or water, or even a person or animal. If you’re going for the former, anticipation and preparation play a huge part in getting a good shot, so take time to work out where your subject is likely to appear and which direction it will take. This applies whether you’re photographing a motorbike on a speedway track, a gymnast on a beam or a bird taking flight across a lake. For the latter, you’ll want to think about how to still give your image a focal point when shooting with a long exposure, and how to create separation between the elements of your composition. There’s also the option to shoot flocks of birds in flight, crowds of people in a city or cars or trains en route to their destinations.
