Perfecting food photography is all about lighting, composition, colour and, most importantly, creating an image that looks good enough to eat. This enticing capture of Chinese mooncakes has been skilfully composed – the mooncakes have been positioned in the centre and the wide aperture used has beautifully blurred the background so the viewer can just make out the pretty detail in the tea cups and teapot. The photographer has produced a very well lit capture with true to life colours, which can be difficult to get right when shooting food.
Often food photography is characterised by wide apertures that are used to blur the background and capture as much light as possible. However, this photographer has skilfully used a narrow aperture in order to keep all of the food in the shot sharp. This capture is very well composed and framed and the viewer's eye is guided around the whole capture. The capture is beautifully bright even with the narrow aperture and the food really does look good enough to eat!
