I really like how negative space is used in this image. The straight lines of the grass in the snow complement the lines and the angles of the building. The rectangular shape of the crop add to an almost geometrical feel to this simple and tranquil scene. The monochrome treatment suits the image well. Congratulations on your top ten placing!
This winning image grabs the viewer's attention and holds it as the eyes try to determine the story. The subject is the plane and its' precarious trail of heavy smoke. The spewing smoke, dramatically highlighted, contrasts with the darker cloudy background. The juxtaposition of light and dark emphasizes the subject and gives wonderful depth to the image. Congratulations on this amazing photograph!
There is such a tranquil mood in this image. The solid figure of the statute covered with moss, hanging even from the fingertips brings to mind enduring strength through adversity. A long exposure is put to great use to create a silky smooth negative space with lovely tones. This image is a true pleasure to view. Congratulations on a job well done!
Meet the judge
This image is striking in its' utilization of light and dark and the variety of rich tones in the monochrome treatment. The structure is surrounded by smooth layers above and below likely achieved by a long exposure. The silkiness and light and dark striations of the negative space work well to highlight the shape of the building. Congratulations on this lovely work of art!

The originality of this piece made it a standout for a top ten image. It's all about the subject's pose and expression, from the crook of the arm to the turned in knees and feet. These angles are emphasized by the negative white space. The composition is striking with the subject in the lower corner on a funky chair and whose connection to the model's shoes provides irony to the shot. Congratulations on a great portrait!
This abstract piece won me over as soon as I saw it. The two silhouetted figures are ethereal and mysterious as primary subjects. But the body of water and sand as the foil for the negative space are incredibly beautiful. Textured and silky simultaneously, filled with alternating light and shadow, the negative space is a worthy subject unto itself, yet it doesn't overpower the subject. Bravo on an outstanding image!
