New Joiners - Animals #758

October 2024

If you described this image without seeing it, it wouldn't sound anywhere near as impactful as it actually is. I love how both the foreground fencing and the roof and windows acts as a natural frame and that blue pops so well from the image. The shape, colour and symmetry means that the face isn't needed at all to make a brilliant image.

I really like how the surrounding fencing and the lawnmower has framed this handsome cat and I like the shallow depth of field which gives us context whilst ensuring it's not distracting. I'd consider increasing the exposure on this image ever so slightly to make it pop even more!

I love the soft side lighting here, highlighting those intricate details on the face, bill and those gorgeous eyelashes! The subtle colour works really well against that darker backdrop and the shallow depth of field works well to isolate the hornbill.

I love how well this image works in black and white, and the more you explore the image the more intricate details you find. At first glance, you'd be forgiven for thinking the flying birds are gulls but the fact that they're Pelicans really adds to the image.

What a truly gorgeous image. I love how well this draws you in and how the details and textures change across the flower. The consistent colour palette almost forces you to search for the subject or 'point of focus', but when you see it, you can't take your eyes off it.

I love the reflection you've captured in this along with those subtle colours, with the amber eye popping out well. It's a shame it wasn't possible to get both subjects perfectly in focus but it's clear you did everything you could given the conditions and light.

I adore how well you've captured that reflection in what could be something as simple as a polished table, and the light and colours are so eye catching. The composition is spot on and the shallow depth of field really helps you to lock onto those striking eyes.

What a gorgeous looking mule! I love how the depth of field is shallow enough to remove any overly distracting elements whilst still giving us a good context of the surrounding habitat, thereby adding to the narrative in the image.

The vibrant colours you've captured in this image are truly divine, whilst not in any way looking over processed or pushed. The composition is good with the subject looking into the frame and the surrounding foliage and branch framing it nicely.

Creating movement in your images like this is a marmite technique, but when done well it can be incredibly impactful. Without the movement, it could be argued that this image wouldn't have anything 'special' about it, but I truly love it, both for the movement and the choice of black and white over colour.

Those eyes and eye contact are piercing and really keep you engaged in the image. I love how the seat acts as a partial natural frame, whilst adding wonderful colour and contrast at the same time. Composing with the subject in the centre works really well due to the symmetry in the face.

I love the separation you've achieved here as the image wouldn't have anywhere near as much impact if the background was more in focus. That gorgeous catch lighting in the eyes really makes the image in my opinion, paired with a great pose and gorgeous colour.

The low perspective on this image works really well and I like how that orange and red on the egrets face stands out from the surrounding image. Depending on whether this is a crop or the original image, I'd consider moving the subject to the right of the frame to get it to 'look into' the image more.

I love how well this handsome marmot blends into the surroundings and yet, it is still a highly engaging image. I love the contrast between the green and the desaturated rocks, with helps that red on the marmot to pop from the image.
