When you think of New York, you think of the World Trade Centre. So, as you can imagine with a photo contest all about New York City, there were plenty of photos with the Twin Towers as the subject matter. There were glossy shots of the structures standing proud in that iconic skyline to beautiful snapshots of quiet moments at the memorial, and even a shot of the attack as it took place on that terrible day. This photo, however, drew me back in time and time again. It is the stillness of this image that stays with you, as if the city has been drowned out by these two steadfast pillars, standing tall and true amongst the noise. A beautiful image, filled with history and now twinged with a certain melancholy. Well done.
In the brief I asked for shots capturing the hustle and bustle of the 'city that never sleeps' and this image does just that. What really stands out about this shot taken in the Santiago Calatrava designed train station is the stillness of the figure on the right hand side. As the world moves around him, our eyes are drawn to his presence, reminding us that even amongst the frenzied activity, there's always time to take pause. Even if that pause is simply waiting for a train....
There's a reason why so many film and tv shows are set in New York. Is there a more iconic, interesting and cinematic city to have as your backdrop? This shot perfectly shows us just how gorgeous New York can look, with plenty of charisma and perfect lighting in place too. Beautifully framed, I can just hear Scorsese out of shot.... 'And, action!"
I wanted to see a quick street snapshot of the diverse people that make up New York City, and this photo definitely delivered. New York is a relentless city, full of the hard-working and hustling, so I love how the photographer has captured a very human moment in amongst the heat of the street. The addition of black and white adds a classic angle to a brilliantly caught moment.

At first glance, there's not that much that gives this image away in terms of context. But look closer and certain clues start to appear... Is that a yellow taxi cab? Are those neon lights created by the garish billboards of Times Square? A modern day interpretation of the rain soaked look of 'Taxi Driver', I love the mystery and urgency created by this shot. Beautifully done.

I want to see your shots capturing the hustle and bustle of the 'city that never sleeps'. From a grand sweeping vista of that iconic skyline to a quick street snapshot of the diverse people that make up the Big Apple, show me the wonders of New York City.
There were plenty of photos of the famous buildings that make up New York, but this shot was by far my favourite. I love how the photographer has captured a sense of anticipation here, as you ramble up the steps of the subway station and are suddenly greeted with the majesty of the Empire State. Great work!
