Old Machinery

March 2022

Something a little different for the brief but WOW you really can see nature reclaiming this one mighty machine. The composition works really well and the choice of black and white makes the subject stand out just that bit more.

As soon as I saw this image I knew it was a winning shot when I could not help zooming in to see the extra details, everything about it works for me, the detail, the light hitting the edges, the moody sky, the tones and just the gritty subject. I think you have not gone too close to the subject nor are too far to try and fit more in. Absolutely lovely work.

**This contest is open to photographers ranked between 1 and 250 in this week’s Leaderboard.** All machinery gets old. Some of it just keeps working, a testament to its design and build. The rest doesn’t, often getting discarded in junkshops, yards and fields where the observant photographer stumbles across it. There’s a heck of a lot of character to this aged technology, with its rusty wheels and battered casings, and it reaches back into earlier times when the workings of things were maybe more on display, and a little easier to grasp.

Absolutely love this, the power of the mighty machine is just there right in front of you and being admired by the engineer who is in the frame. The lighting works well with the shot, as does the silhouette of the man.
